Food intolerance, also known as non-IgE mediated food hypersensitivity or non-allergic food hypersensitivity, is an adverse reaction to a particular food, beverage, or food additive that causes symptoms in one or more body organs and systems. It is not the same thing as food allergy and is far more common for both children and adults. Sometimes, food Intolerance is referred to as delayed-onset food allergy as symptoms appear up to 72 hours after consuming an offending food, making it hard to identify the specific cause of the reaction.

With our food intolerance lab test in Sharjah, a sample of blood is tested for the presence of food-specific IgG antibodies formed against a comprehensive list of foods in the diet. Any high IgG result shows that you are intolerant to a particular food. However, food intolerance need not be a permanent condition, and once trigger foods are identified and avoided for months, they may be reintroduced and in most cases are tolerated again.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOOD ALLERGY AND INTOLERANCE

FOOD ALLERGY

A food allergy is when the body’s immune system reacts unusually to specific foods. Allergic reactions are often mild, but they can sometimes be very serious. In young children, common food allergies include milk and eggs.

INTOLERANCE

If you have a food intolerance, you may be able to eat small amounts of the offending food without trouble. You may also be able to prevent a reaction. For example, if you have lactose intolerance, you may be able to drink lactose-free milk or take lactase enzyme pill(Lactaid)to aid digestion.
