Botox

Overview

The injection of botulinum toxin, popularly known as Botox, has become very common for reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating the ageing face. The results are only temporary; however, the injections can be done instantly, need no recovery time. They are not as complicated as many other cosmetic procedures for the face.

Clostridium botulinum bacteria produce botulinum toxin. When a little amount of Botox is injected in a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that contracts your muscles. It temporarily weakens or paralyses the muscles in the face and eliminates wrinkles in the skin for some months. Getting a Botox injection hardly takes a few minutes.

Botox injections are more comfortable and barely painful than other processes for reducing wrinkles and making your face look younger (face-lift, chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser resurfacing). Keep in mind that the impact of an injection may last only a few months. To keep the influence, you will have to get doses a few times a year. A single injection may seem inexpensive; however, the cost of repeated injections can rapidly add up.

Uses

Botulinum toxin is generally used to treat frown lines in individuals younger than 60. Botox injections also are often used to diminish other wrinkles on the neck and face, like crow’s feet, forehead lines, and brow furrow.

Botulinum toxin is approved to treat a wide range of condition, for example, headache, chronic migraine, muscle stiffness and eye muscle disorders.

Benefits

Within 72-96 hours after treatment, the injection of Botox partly or entirely smooth wrinkles for most individuals. However, the results are temporary, typically lasting about three months. You will have to re-visit for injections every 3 to 4 months to maintain the effect. The dosage of Botox usually is the same each time you get an injection.

Here are some benefits of Botox:
  • It diminishes the presence of lines and wrinkles formed, by relaxing muscles, bringing back a more youthful appearance.
  • Gradually, the treatment re-educates the muscle so the gap between treatments will increase
  • Untreated areas of the face do not get affected, so you can still frown and smile; however, the skin on the treated parts won’t wrinkle as much as usual.
  • These treatments are non-invasive with nearly no recovery time necessary; you can resume your routine activities immediately after treatment.
  • These are not permanent and will naturally clear up.
  • Wrinkles and lines can be reduced by using a purified protein produced by a bacteria that induce lasting relaxation of contracted muscles. This Botox injection was initially used to treat central nervous system disorders and eyes spasm.
  • Botox treatments are quintessential for relaxing over-active muscle activity that can lead to crow’s feet and deep frown lines. It can be used to decrease excess perspiration ‘Hyperhidrosis’ and more recently to relieve the symptoms of migraines.
  • It encourages muscle re-education, as the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria that induce lasting relaxation of contracted muscles.
  • Wrinkles and lines are a natural and unstoppable aspect of the ageing process. While they are unavoidable, they can be prevented and reduced.

After Treatment

You may not spot changes straight away. For the first few hours after treatment, take it easy and avoid massaging or rubbing the treated area. Also, avoid vigorous exercise, sunbathing (including using sunbeds), and the sauna for two days. You can get back to your routine activities after 3 to 4 hours.

It can take up to 3 to 4 days before you observe results from the Botox. The full effect may take up to 1-2 weeks. The results may last for about 3 to 4 months on average but sometimes lasts up to 6 months. After that, you will begin to notice the wrinkles return.

Botox injections have been used to treat heaps of people worldwide and are the world’s most popular non-surgical treatment.
